Would you like to help look after our beautiful Australian wildlife and learn more about how to care for these precious animals? Then please read on....
We welcome volunteers to stay with us and enjoy this great experience. We need volunteers who are willing to stay for a minimum of 2 weeks.
We sometimes need local volunteer who are willing to come out on a regular basis but do not need to spend the night.
We welcome Vet student and student of animal studies to learn more about Australians unique wildlife. Also Handy-men are very welcome as we always have lots of jobs to do around the shelter.
Maintenance never stops....and you will still have a lot of interaction with the animals.
Your work will consists of:
* assisting on rescue calls
* assist in emergency medical treatment
* excersing young animals
* bottle feeding all young animals every 4 hours
* cleaning animal enclosure
* building / repairing animal enclosures
* brows for grass and and gum leaves in the forest
This means you have to be a fit person who is used to work in hard/hot condition, although the nights can be cold.
(We ask all volunteers to have a good understanding of english. You have to understand any advice given to you to be able to handle and help the animals. If your english is not up to this standard than you will not be able to help.)
(If possible), please have an international drivers licence. And very important is that you have your own personal insurance (medical and liability) and an up-to-date tetanus shot.
(Also please note: we do not have WiFi, if you need internet access you can get this at the internet cafe 'Java@yack' in the township and we have very limited Cell Phone reception.)
You will have to travel to the nearest airport (which is Albury, Victoria) or bus station (Albury or Beechworth) on your own expenses. We will pick you up from there. All personal expenses will be your own.
We ask a minimum stay of 2 weeks, longer might be possible. This is so you get to know the animals and more important the animals get to know you!
