I stayed at Kangaloola since 28 of july until 21 of october 2011 (well, I traveled a bit between these dates jejeje). I'm a DVM (doctor in veterinary medicine) from Spain and since I was a child I dreamed about go to Australia and work with wildlife...marsupials seems fascinating to me.
When I ended the Uni I met another DVM (Manu), and he told me about Kangaloola, then, I though that my dream was pretty close...
Live at Kangaloola is the most beautiful thing that I ever did. You're a 24/7 volunteer helping the most wonderful kind of animals in the world, learning about vet things, biology things and the most important...Learning how to be better person. You always feel comfortable like at home, because Glenda, the others volunteers and the animals become your family.
I'm just wishing to come back!
I am gara from Spain, I am a Biologist and I was a volunteer in Kangaloola for 6 months (May ´11- Nov ´11) and I had one of the best experience of my life!!. The animals are just amazing! I fell in love with them from the first time, they are so cute!
The Shelter is in a beautiful forest with lots of birds, kangaroos, wombats, possums... around. I slept in a caravan with other volunteers in a very confortable bed with a chimney for the winter and room for my stuff.
I was feeding the babies, taking them for a walk, playing with them and also helping collecting food (grass, gumleaves, gumnuts...) and other task. I enjoyed so much to play outside with the wombats and the kangaroos, they will follow you everywhere!.
Glenda is a very nice person and also his husband Ron, she knows so much about animal behaviour, I learned a lot from her. Glenda is a very hard worker and she will teach you a lots of things. They will treat you like family and you will not want to leave Australia, I promise.
If you have the chance to go there, gooo!!
Nat and I spent were at Kangaloola last Australian winter, working hard, not sleeping much, at times not having time to even have a shower, sometimes cold, sometimes rainy, etc.
But it also was the time of our lives; Two weeks we will never forget.
Whatever you give to the animals is too little compared with what they can give to you. And we also loved the humans we met there :)
A big hello to Glenda, Wyanda and Sam thank you for looking after me when I cam to visit you in March 2011. I wanted to say Glenda and Wyanda what an absolute privilage it was for me to meet you both.
If only other humans could take a lesson from you both on your selflessness and commitment you both give to taking care of the animals in your care.
I hope to return to you one day in the not too distant future. Fondest regards and grateful thanks for creating memories that will live with me till my dying day.
Stephen and myself stayed with Glenda for three weeks in June 2009. It was the most amazing experience ever. I loved every minute of it.
Stephen built the Koala shelter with Mijkol and I helped with the feeds, walks, bottles and cuddles for all the babies. Ste also done this.lol!
It was so great getting to know such a wonderful lady like Glenda, she really has one of the most interesting backgrounds ever.
Where do I start with the animals? I never knew what a wombat was before coming to Glenda's and I can honestly say that they are still one of my favourite animals ever. They are so affectionate fun loving and cuddly.
I loved all the kangas and all their different personalities.
I loved poor Mango also what a great personality.
Every day was a different adventure and I loved waking up to the sounds of the koalas outside our room in the morning.
We loved bringing frog dog for our morning walk up the hill to feed Glendas realeased magpie Oz!
It was the best time ever and I would love to return one day!
Anyone who loves animals and who's not afraid to get stuck in to help out will love it here, it really is a once in a lifetime opportunity!
